Billy Down’s WW2 Secret Radio Station - Captain Hugh May RN

July 1940: In threatened coastal areas a secret resistance organisation was training civilians as spies & saboteurs in case of Nazi occupation. This talk reveals the intrigue behind these intelligence units & tells the story of a remarkable radio station at Bewley Down, Axminster, cleverly concealed under an outside privy with the access shaft beneath the seat!

The Unfortunate Captain Pierce & the Wreck of the Halsewell - Philip Browne

In 1786 ferocious seas wrecked the Halsewell on the Dorset coast.  Despite dramatic rescue attempts Captain Richard Pierce, many crew & his teenaged daughters, his nieces & other young ladies India bound in search of rich husbands, were all drowned. The peculiar circumstances caught the public imagination filling newspapers for weeks, even King George visited the wreck site.
