
Devonport Guildhall History Evenings
Devonport Guildhall invites you to appreciate Plymouth’s rich history with us - we’re taking advantage of the history available right here on our doorstep, bringing you Devonport Guildhall’s new History Evenings.
Taking place on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th August, Devonport’s history will be revealed through a fascinating guided walking tour of Devonport’s most interesting historical buildings and monuments. The tour will take you to the Market Hall, St Aubyn’s Church, The Mechanics Institute, Cumberland Green (Piquet Barracks) and Devonport Guildhall. The journey ends with a tour of Devonport Guildhall and an opportunity to climb Devonport Column.
A final question & answer session with your guide concludes the evening, accompanied by freshly baked pizza from the Column Bakehouse, Devonport Guildhall’s own artisan bakery. You’ll also be given a refreshing glass of wine!

Devonport Guildhall was part of the centrepiece of John Foulston's development of a civic centre around Ker Street in the 1820s, when the district Plymouth Dock gained independent status as the town of Devonport. See Devonport Column and Foulston's Devonport for further background.
